By: Michael Millington

Having a budget (whether it’s monthly, weekly or daily) can result in multiple benefits ranging from saving money to paying off debts. However, it can be very difficult to know what you need to cut back on in order to meet your financial goals. When trying to pick and choose what you should alter about your spending habits, being subjective about your decisions won’t help much. There are some things that are commonplace in the lives of many that can take a back seat when it comes to preparing or amending a budget. In addition, there are many ways to expand your budget and make your money do more. Here we will discuss the later as we finish up our two part budgeting posts.

Second, Expand Your Earning Potential

If you look to adjust your budget there can apprehension when trying to cut back. It isn’t hard to imagine how eliminating some of the conveniences of modern life can be depressing. If you don’t want to get rid of some of the things deemed unnecessary in the last post, the only other way to fix your budget is to increase your earning potential. Making more money can always help to alleviate the budget woes anyone might be having. But not everyone may be aware of how they can make more money. Fortunately, there are many ways to earn more money on the side or in general.

One way you can earn more money is to ask for a raise at your job. The worst thing that can happen is you can get turned down for the raise, but on the other hand your boss might approve your raise. The key to increasing your chances to getting a favorable response for an income increase is to have reasoning to backup your request. If you don’t think you’ve done enough to garner a raise (or if your boss declines your request) then there are other things you can do to earn more money.

There are multiple odds and ends jobs you can do to earn extra cash on the side. Many can be found through apps or online websites (just exhibit caution when doing your research). The most common way to earn extra money is to simply get another job. While another full time job has the potential to be cumbersome, a part time job can offer extra income while allowing more flexibility with your time. Even better, look to procure a work from home position that can help you get paid without having to leave the house.

Next week we will discuss more uncommon ways you can make extra money. Shopping, anyone?
